How to put on a condom, an illustrated step by step approach and guidelines

October 20, 2006

  • Condoms are highly effective in preventing the transmission of HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).
  • Condoms can greatly reduce a person’s risk of getting or giving STDs, including HIV infection. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS.
  • But for condoms to provide maximum protection, they must be used consistently and correctly.
  • Consistent use means using a condom from start to finish every time you have sex.

Condom sense for college students

October 20, 2006

I was talking to an old friend on the phone the other night, and our conversation invariably steered its way to sex. Just FYI, football came first especially last night’s MNF game between Saints and Falcons. Take that Katrina!! When bragging as is usually the case, he told me that he doesn’t use them because the first time he did, it broke. So you are telling me that if you crashed your car, you’d never drive again?

This isn’t the only excuse I’ve heard. I’ve heard people complain that condoms feel like a raincoat wrapped around their penis, that they’re allergic to them, or that condoms aren’t “big enough”. Come on guys, if I can fit a condom over my fist and forearm, I can’t imagine any of you having a problem putting one on spud the speedshooter. And if you’re worried about reduced sensation, add a single drop of lube in the tip. Besides, imagine the sensation of an unplanned pregnancy or STD, maybe HIV. If you have an allergy to the lubrication or spermicide, try switching brands, or use polyurethane condoms if you have a latex allergy.

Condoms work. The breakage rate is only 2%, and most of this is due to human error. The following guidelines decrease the failure rate of condoms. Also for rookies, check out this article on how to use/ put on a condom

Store and use your condoms correctly. Keep them in a cool, dry place and throw out expired condoms. Squeeze the package carefully to check for holes. Pinch an inch of air out of the tip of the condom to allow room for ejaculate. Roll the condom down the erect penis (GENTLY ladies– this is a sensitive area) before any genital contact. There may be enough sperm in pre-cum to get someone pregnant. Use a bit of waterbased lubricant if you want; don’t use oil-based lube, as it destroys latex. Immediately after ejaculation, hold the condom at the base of the penis and withdraw from the vagina to prevent spillage. Tie a knot in the used condom and toss in a garbage bin. Don’t flush them down the toilet, or you’ll have quite the explanation to give to the plumbers.

Now that you’ve mastered condoms, remember: two methods are better than one. You’ll have much better protection from pregnancy if you use the birth control pill or some other birth control method and a condom.

Condoms are great! They’re cheap, available, and effective. Get creative and work condoms into a kinky sex game. Make your partner think sexy. It could be a fun way to protect yourself.

Fatherhood can wait: A guide for the MALE college student

October 20, 2006

I’m always a little surprised at how some guys are willing to leave the whole issue of when they become fathers solidly in the lap of their girlfriends. It’s like we follow the dictates of our cocks, leaving sperm lying around wherever, and wait, hoping against hope , that we’re not going to be confronted with that dreaded line “Hey honey — I’m pregnant.”

And if you think that the above one liner is the worst punch to your gut ever, that’s just the beginning. If she decides to have the baby — and at that point it’s too late for us to have any say — they NOTE THIS GUYS , you are legally and financially responsible for that child, for at least 18 yeards, before you have even established in a career or for that matter come out of Calculus 2. Have a nice life. As guys, the odds are stacked up against us in the baby sweepstakes

As a guy, the only way I can take any control over this situation is to either refrain from any sexual activity where fathering a child is possible, or become a master of the art of latex. Best case scenario is for me to use that condom and for my partner to use another method as well, such as the pill or diaphragm — that combination gives nearly 100% protection. (As opposed to just trying to track periods and have sex only when it’s “safe”, a method that results in a very high pregnancy rate… People who use this method are generally referred to as “parents”.) Of course, I could choose to abstain, but even abstinence doesn’t guarantee there won’t be a pregnancy — in fact some studies indicate that the pregnancy rate among people who say they practice abstinence is as high as 17%.

What did you say? Pregnancy in people who are abstinent? What is this — immaculate conception? Not quite. First of all, there’s a lot of weird ideas about what abstinence means. In terms of pregnancy prevention, abstinence means no vaginal or anal penetration — none — not even if you just put it in for a minute. (What is she, a microwave??) Pre-cum contains sperm, and sperm are resilient little critters. They swim, too, remember? Any time there’s any ejaculate near the vagina — with or without penetration — there’s a possibility of pregnancy, not to mention STDs.

I think one question every man should ask himself before he gets physical with a woman is, “Am I ready to be a father? If the answer is “no”, it’s time to take control before a pregnancy happens. And short of abstinence — real abstinence — the only way for a man to take control over the situation is to use a condom — properly and every time. Need more condom sense? Check it out here. Pull it out, roll it on, and enjoy the moment. Enjoy the fact that it keeps you hard longer. Put a drop of lube in the tip and enjoy the hot wet sensations. You don’t even have to say a word. Just do it. You’ll sleep better afterwards, and your partner will love you for it.

Fatherhood can wait.

Alcohol 101 for college students

October 20, 2006

So you are at a party this week and all set for a ‘good’ time or as they say ‘Let the good times roll’. People drinking it up and having a good time. All mature adults, but do you know enough about alcohol?? Before you begin to think of this article as another lecture about drinking, let me assure you it is not!!

Alcohol 101: Some Basics

What is Alcohol?

Alcohol is often thought of as a stimulant, because it lowers inhibitions, which may mean that you take chances you wouldn’t otherwise take. However, alcohol actually acts as a depressant on your central nervous system, slowing down brain functioning. There are two kinds of alcohol in common use. Ethyl alcohol is the kind present in beer, wine, spirits and liqueurs. Methyl alcohol is completely different and is found in solvents, paint removers, antifreeze and other household and industrial products. It is a poison and should never be consumed.

Short term effects

A common effect of drinking alcohol is a sense of well-being. This feeling could be accompanied by drowsiness, dizziness and flushing. When a person drinks too much, they often wake up with a hangover. A hangover is actually alcohol withdrawal. Beginning eight to 12 hours after you stop drinking, a headache accompanied by shakiness and nausea may also result.

Men and women

I am pretty sure most of you heard and probably have seen women get drunk faster than men and this is actually a true fact. Even if the woman is at the same weight as a man, women metabolize alcohol at a slower rate. A woman’s body also contains less water than a man’s. Therefore, alcohol is diluted less in a woman’s body. Also, while men can metabolize about one drink/hr, women may take upto two hours.

Miracle Cures

Again, people who got trashed/wasted have all experimented with these miracle cures. Even the medical industry is in on this one, churning out ‘magic pills’ like say Gravol or eating toasted bread to drinking coffee or drinking gatorade. However, once alcohol is in the body, trust me, it is there to party. Gravol could only end up in lowering the body’s natural defences against alcohol. Giving a person a cold shower will only result in a wet drunk - not to mention smaller problems for men. Then there is the all time favourite of giving a drunk person some coffee. Guess what? Now you end up with a nice and lively drunk. Eating food and drinking water/gatorade may stop dehydration but only time will sober you up.

Okay enough about the basics… Coming back to the party you are at or going to be at, if you asked people around about their opinion on alcohol, there would be varying opinions. However, it wouldn’t be very hard to tell these people apart. They are either passed out, laughing at those passed out, or disgustingly carrying those who passed out - I’ll let you decide which groups held which opinions. On college campuses, its all about peer pressure. The end point being that everyone has the right to make their own decisions within reasonable limits. Besides, wouldn’t the world be boring if we were all the same?

How to obtain free answers from Experts-Exchange.com

October 20, 2006

I am sure for many of your assignments or questions in general, you have used Google or any of the search engines to get a headstart into your research in your quest to get an answer to your problem. However, what you get in return from your search result is a whole bunch of irrelevant information thrown at you. Using advanced operators usually helps solve this problem, however sometimes you get lucky and the answer is usually staring at your face. Most likely the answer you are seeking is usually provided by a pay/subscription site. One of the more prominent ones in this category is Experts Exchange. Here, I am going to tell you probably one of the more wide known secrets in accessing hidden information from pay/subscription sites and in general for this article, targetted towards getting answers for FREE from experts exchange.

Method # 1: Using Google Cache

For demonstration, I am trying to look on how to covert C code into Assembly. Now, if I enter this query in Google, I get some pretty decent results. Now, we are trying to look for a solution at Experts Exchange. So, I go to google.com and type in covert c code to assembly site:experts-exchange.com. The ’site:’ is an advanced operator in google which limits our search results to that particular website and in this case, it is experts-exchange. [Read more]

How to bypass BIOS passwords

October 20, 2006

BIOS, in computing, stands for Basic Input/Output System or Basic Integrated Operating System. BIOS refers to the software code run by a computer when first powered on. The primary function of BIOS is to prepare the machine so other software programs stored on various media (such as hard drives, floppies, and CDs) can load, execute, and assume control of the computer. This process is known as booting up.
BIOS can also be said to be a coded program embedded on a chip that recognises and controls various devices that make up the computer.

BIOS passwords can be add extra layer of security for desktop and laptop computers, and are used to either prevent a user from changing the BIOS settings or to prevent the PC from booting without a password. BIOS passwords can also be a liability if a user forgot their passwords, or if a malicious user changes the password. Sending the unit back to the manufacturer to have the BIOS reset can be expensive and is usually not covered in an a typical warranty. However, there are a few known backdoors and other tricks of the trade that can be used to bypass or reset the BIOS password on most systems.

Many BIOS manufacturers have provided backdoor passwords that can be used to access the BIOS setup in the event you have lost your password. These passwords are case sensitive, so you may wish to try a variety of combinations.
WARNING: Some BIOS configurations will lock you out of the system completely if you type in an incorrect password more than 3 times. Read your manufacturers documentation for the BIOS setting before you begin typing in passwords.

Toshiba BIOS Most Toshiba laptops and some desktop systems will bypass the BIOS password if the left shift key is held down during boot
IBM Aptiva BIOS Press both mouse buttons repeatedly during the boot

Other options to remove/reset the BIOS password if the default passwords don’t work

Using the Motherboard “Clear CMOS” Jumper or Dipswitch settings : This could also be used to clear CMOS password on Dell machines. Many motherboards feature a set of jumpers or dipswitches that will clear the CMOS and wipe all of the custom settings including BIOS passwords. The locations of these jumpers / dipswitches will vary depending on the motherboard manufacturer and ideally you should always refer to the motherboard or computer manufacturers documentation. If the documentation is unavailable, the jumpers/dipswitches can sometimes be found along the edge of the motherboard, next to the CMOS battery, or near the processor. Some manufacturers may label the jumper / dipswitch CLEAR - CLEAR CMOS - CLR - CLRPWD - PASSWD - PASSWORD - PWD. On laptop computers, the dipswitches are usually found under the keyboard or within a compartment at the bottom of the laptop.

Removing the CMOS Battery The CMOS settings on most systems are buffered by a small battery that is attached to the motherboard. (It looks like a small watch battery). If you unplug the PC and remove the battery for 10-15 minutes, the CMOS may reset itself and the password should be blank. (Along with any other machine specific settings, so be sure you are familiar with manually reconfiguring the BIOS settings before you do this.) Some manufacturers backup the power to the CMOS chipset by using a capacitor, so if your first attempt fails, leave the battery out (with the system unplugged) for at least 24 hours

How to crack a 128 bit WEP key using OS X and KISMAC

October 20, 2006

WEP is one of the ways through which users try to implement encryption on their wireless networks. Most students going into their college dorms for the first time, go the nearest Circuit City or Best Buy, get the latest wireless router and plug it in. Either they leave it open or they go with the default WEP key. Some tech savvy users still go with WEP as their Wireless encryption protocol, just because their laptops might be couple of years old and their wireless adapters might not support better wireless security protocols like WPA or WPA2+TKIP/ WPA+AES.

Even if you use WPA, it doesn’t matter if you have SSID turned on or off, because better cracking programs are coming out every day with better dictionaries. Some help can be obtained through the good folks at GRC where they have a free strong pass phrase generation tool. While MAC address filtering would be an okay complement to your wireless protection, they do not complement your security by much. MAC addresses are actually not encrypted when sent over the air, since they are the only reliable way of identifying a peer. Getting them from network traffic is trivial and only needs a couple of frames. Also, MAC addresses are also trivial to spoof.

To show all you folks why WEP does not provide any security, check out this video from Shawn Hogan. Shawn here cracks two 128 bit WEP keys in around 60 seconds. He uses a publicly available tool called KISMAC available for a Macintosh. After doing some reading, an “ultra-secure” password/MD5 seed would be relatively useless anyway… all it would do is force the attacker to spend 10 minutes on it instead of 10 seconds (see this FAQ and this FAQ), all of which is easily done from the kismac Network menu. It doesn’t even matter if you setup your wireless network to be public or not, because kismac can see it even if the base station isn’t showing the SSID publicly. So here goes hacking with KISMAC on OS X
