The Superbowl curse lives on. New England Patriots miss playoffs

December 28, 2008

Some people belive in jinxes and curses and all that. Others don’t. However, it is getting pretty hard to ignore one curse which centers around the Superbowl or rather the losers of the Superbowl. No one believed the curse would hold any water this year for the New England Patriots who were a perfect 16-0 last season before losing in the SuperBowl. However 9 minutes into the season, they lose last year’s MVP Tom Brady. Over the course of the season they lost several other prominent starters on offense and defense. However, they chugged along to a 11-5 record and became the only team since 1985 Dever Broncos to miss the playoffs despite a pretty good 11-5 record.  So, what is the superbowl curse.

Superbowl curse: The loser of the premier National Football League event the Superbowl, does not make the playoffs the following season. Let us recap the events over the past decade.

2008: New England Patriots (lost to the New York Giants 14-17 in Superbowl 42)

2007: Chicago Bears (lost to Indianapolis Colts 17-29 in Superbowl 41)

2006: Seattle Seahawks (only exception to the curse. Make the playoffs despite losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers 10-21)

2005: Philadelphia Eagles (lost to New England Patriots 21-24 in Superbowl 39)

2004: Carolina Panthers (lost to New England Patriots 29-32 in Superbowl 38)

2003: Oakland Raiders(lost to Tampa Bay Buccaneers 21-48 in Superbowl 37)

2002: St.Loius Rams(lost to New England Patriots 17-20 in Superbowl 36)

2001: New York Giants (lost to Baltimore Ravens 7-34 in Superbowl 35)

Paintball Tips

December 28, 2008

In a game like paintball, it’s crucial to have good aim. Withoutit, in a game where the enemy must be eliminated, a loss is certainwithout hitting targets. Good aim is a skill that is mastered overtime, but it is a skill that can be honed from the beginning. There are some ways to practice aim prior to hitting the field. For those that have their own equipment, here are some drills to do from the backyard:

Hanging targets: Hang some targets, such as cans or bottles, from strings on tree branches, clothesline poles and other sturdy objects. The idea in this is that the targets will be of height of opponents in different positions. Let the wind be a natural obstacle, as it will mimic the opponent moving. If this becomes easy, move back a few steps, further to one side or another, or choose smaller targets. This is a surefire way to build aiming skills.

Yahoo and Google censorship

December 28, 2008

It is Google’s policy not to censor search results. On the other hand, in response to local laws, regulations, or policies, they must censor search results.

Specific governments keep a tight rein on the internet and what users can access. The latest action taken was Argentina forcing Google & Yahoo to censor search results. The censorship was related about a variety of celebrities, including public officials, models, actors, and sports stars. For example users’ searching for the world’s most well known soccer stars and the current national team head coach – Diego Maradona — produces zero results, along with a message from Yahoo that’s roughly translated as follows:

“On the occasion of a court order sought by private parties, we have been forced to temporarily remove some or all of the search results relating to it.”

Google first received an order to block references to the individuals on its Argentina search engine in mid-2007. “A group of about 70 fashion models, represented by the same lawyer, initially asked the Internet Company to block all search results with their names with the intent of blocking pornographic sites that used the models’ pictures. Google responded that it would only block specific problematic links, provided it could notify users.” (Source: CNet News)
