My Favorite Police Song
The Police were one of the most famous rock band groups of the 80s comprising of Singer/bassist Sting, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland. The Police vowed international audiences with their style of reggae and punk music with their album Synchronicity going number one in the US and UK and also going platinum eight times in the US.
After the Synchronicity tour ended in March 1984, the band members persued their own solo career. The Police in 2003, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At the 2007 Grammies The Police announced “This is The Police and we are back!” much to the excitement of their fans including me. They also annouced there that they would be touring together in 2007 and would be playing at the Live Earth concert in July 2007.
Listening to classics, The Police rank as my all time favorite groups ever and I am absolutely ecstatic that they are going on a world wide tour. As part of that, they are releasing a new police cd which features hits from all their five albums. Of these while Synchronicity II is pretty good, my all time favorite Police Song is simply “Every Breath You Take”
“Every Breath You Take” was released on the 1983 Police album Synchronicity. It was one of the biggest single of that year topping the UK chart for 4 weeks and the Billboard (US) chart for 8 weeks. Sting also won the Song of the Year and the group won the Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal at the Grammy Awards of 1984
Some critics of the song point out that the track was written during the collapse of Sting’s marriage to Frances Tomelty where the lyrics are of a sinister, controlling character, who is watching “every breath you take / every move you make”.
The words are very interesting are is definitely a comforting love song.
The song had a music video (directed by duo Godley & Creme) that was praised for its black-and-white cinematography. Both MTV (1999) and VH1 (2002) named it as one of the best music videos ever, placing it 16th and 33rd in their respective top 100 lists.
This song brings out many wonderful memories and I sure invokes similar memories in you too. Looking at the songs in the new police cd, I know I’m definitely going to get it
