I am in a highly scientific health field. I can tell you that every student we have hired that had 4.0s were so socially inept they did not last long in their careers and no longer have any job at all. I agree you need to be somewhat social. I do think it's absolutely worthwhile to do well in school, but as with most things it's all about balance and college is as much about being able to handle yourself socially as it is about cramming for tests.
