How to Download Free Music using Google
April 20, 2007
So, here is the way you have been looking for. How to download free music and MP3’s using Google to search for your favorite band and artist. All you have to do, is go to Google.com and type this
-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(wma|mp3|ogg|m4a|aac) “AskStudent”
in the search bar and replace AskStudent with your favorite band, and you will only find open indexes that contain downloadable music files.
For example, my favorite band is Linkin Park. So, I go to Google and type this, in the search bar
-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(wma|mp3|ogg|m4a|aac) “Linkin Park”

At times like this, when no one is looking, I hug my computer. This whole Internet thing is pretty cool.
AskStudent Advisory: Please check the local laws in your country. At a lot of places, downloading music is illegal. Subscribe to music. It’s hella cheaper than buying, just as entertaining, and not near as time consuming or worrisome. Also, your favorite bands get something in their pocket… which helps them make the next CD and you contribute, as opposed to consuming.

January 12, 2007
Steve Bryant of GoogleWatch posted this mock up of what Google would look like if it incorporates the style and layout of Yahoo’s Home page.
It seems he started this mockup after reports through Jeremy Zawodny who discovered that Google had ripped off a Yahoo page design. The end layout looks really neat and at the same time, it keeps in mind Google’s primary task.. to provide a simple search avenue for its visitors.

November 21, 2006
Google’s stock price has gone past $500 for the 1st time Tuesday, and their shares are up nearly 2 percent in today’s morning trade. Today marks a new milestock for the search king and catapulted it into the corporate elite. The stock price can only go upwards as Google’s core search and ad business only gets stronger every quarter and hundreds of investors want to own a piece of the company that has now become the Internet’s most powerful financial force while at the same time keeping its ‘do no evil’ motto all along and building a brand that has now become so ingrained in society, that it has become part of the English language.

Continuing a recent surge driven by Wall Street’s high expectations for the company, Google’s shares rose $9.67, or nearly 2 percent, to $504.72 in morning trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
That left Google with a market value of about $154 billion just eight years after former Stanford University graduate students Larry Page and Sergey Brin started the business in a Silicon Valley garage.
The Mountain View-based company is now Silicon Valley’s most valuable business, eclipsing the likes of Intel Corp., the world’s largest computer chip maker, and Hewlett-Packard Co.
It took slightly more than a year for Google’s shares to travel from $400 to $500 — the stock’s longest journey from one major milestone to the next since the company priced its initial public offering at $85 in August 2004. The shares topped $100 on their first day of trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market, then crossed $200 in less than three months. The stock broke through $300 another seven months later in June 2005 and then breached $400 on Nov. 17 last year.
The latest spurt of optimism appeared to reflect a belief that Google will quickly introduce ways to mine more online advertising revenue from its just-completed $1.65 billion acquisition of YouTube Inc. Google used its stock to finance the deal.
Anyone waiting for a stock split before investing in Google risks being left on the sidelines. Although most publicly held companies regularly split their stock to create a lower per-share price that appeals to more Main Street investors, the proudly unconventional Page and Brin have repeatedly indicated they have no intention of resorting to that maneuver.

November 21, 2006
How many times have you wanted a free converter from one document type to another. The most common need for people arises in the case of trying to convert Microsoft Office, Open Office and most often trying to convert PDF documents to HTML for free without the need for any expensive third party software like Adobe Acrobat Professional or PDF2HTML converter.
In this article, you will learn how to extract text and convert PDF documents. You will learn how to convert doc, xls, ppt, rtf and pdf documents to HTML, a free online conversion that works on all platforms Windows PC, Linux/Unix and OS X/Mac.
In order to achive our task, we will use the ‘See it now’ feature in GMail to convert Adobe PDF documents to HTML files. We can also use this feature to convert all Microsoft Office Document formats (MS Word .doc, Excel .xls, Powerpoint .ppt, Rich Text Format .rtf), OpenOffice.org Document Formats (Writer, Calc, Impress, Presentation) and WML Files (Wireless markup language) to HTML.
Here’s how to get this done with GMail:
• Compose a new message in GMail. (If you are still without a GMail account, you can now sign up for Gmail)
• Attach any PDF or Word document that you want to convert to HTML You can attach multiple files in this step by clicking Attach another File.
• Enter your own email address in the To: box and click send.
• You instantly receive a message in your GMail Inbox folder. Open the message and click the “View as HTML” link next to your attachment.
• The contents of your attachment appear as HTML in a new browser window without having to download the file. When you’re finished reading the attached file, close the new browser window to return to Gmail or Save the file to your harddrive.

GMail will show the following types of files as HTML: .pdf, .doc, .xls, .ppt, .rtf, .sxw, .sxc, .sxi, .sdw, .sdc, .sdd, and .wml. You can extend this trick to extract text from PDF documents (PDF to Txt) or Convert Adobe PDF documents to Word (PDF to Doc conversion). First convert the Document to HTML with Gmail and then open the HTML file in Microsoft Word and choose Save as .doc.

November 17, 2006
A sitemap is a simple XML file which webmasters place in the root of their site to submit their pages for spidering and indexing by search engines. A sitemap is not just restricted to information about the URL’s and the frequently changing pages at web sites, but also could include meta information about those URLs such as when it was last updated, how often it usually changes, and how important a particular URL is , releative to other URLs in the site and also geo-location data, so that these search engines can more intelligently crawl and index the site. Web crawlers usually discover pages from links within the site and from other sites. Sitemaps supplement this data to allow crawlers that support Sitemaps to pick up all URLs in the Sitemap and learn about those URLs using the associated metadata.
Google was the first of the search engines to release Sitemaps almost a year ago. Now, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft, in an encouraging act of parternship announced today that they will begin to use the same sitemap protocol to index websites around the world. The new parternship is based out of sitemaps.org, which has lots of instructions for web masters on how to generate a standards compliant XML file on their servers which all three engines can then use to track updates to webpages.
The protocol is offered under an Attribution-ShareAlike Creative Commons License, so it can be used by any search engine, derivative variations using the same license can be created and it can be used for commercial purposes.
Any time competitors agree on open standards, that’s an enabler of further innovation and something to celebrate. It’s also great to see Creative Commons receiving all the more validation.
Search engine guru Danny Sullivan wrote the following tonight about the move.
Overall, I’m thrilled. It took nearly a decade for the search engines to go from unifying around standards for blocking spidering and making page description to agreeing on the nofollow attribute for links in January 2005. A wait of nearly two years for the next unified move is a long time, but far less than 10 and progress that’s very welcomed. I applaud the three search engines for all coming together and look forward to more to come.
Several people have made early public statements indicating that the next move will be to develop meaningful standards support for robots.txt files. Imagine a future when these players agree on standards for user control of data, microformats or truly neutral party click-fraud tracking and prevention.
