I recently lost my Cell phone while travelling abroad. Fortunately for me, I had an brand new cell phone which I got from T-Mobile for free when I renewed my contract with them, a Nokia 6010 hanging around. In most countries, there are pre-paid options for phones where you pay a provider some cash and you get a SIM card which you can plug into your phone and you are all set. However, the Nokia phone I had was locked to T-Mobile and I could not use my SIM card. This led me to go online and see if there are any methods out there to help me unlock and use my cellphone. Now, there are plently of sites out there which give you the unlock codes for your Nokia Cell phone. However, most of them charge anywhere from $9.99 to $65 to provide you with the unlock codes. Also, some of them only take payment in Euros. So, in this post, I will introduce you to two sites who provide you with unlock codes for your Nokia Cell phone absolutely FREE.

Site # 1: Unlock.it

This site is the most popular free site for unlocking any Nokia based Cell phone and most of the cell phones out there. Some of their other brands for which they provide unlock codes include Siements, LG, NEC, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Motorola based phones. The procedure for unlocking your Cell phone is as follows: 1. Start your phone without your new SIM or any SIM card in it 2. Now hit *#06# on your cell phone. When you do it, your IMEI number, a unique global serial number for your cell phone shows up. Your IMEI number should be 15 digits. 3. Now, choose the model of your Cell phone. If you don’t know your cell phone model number, you can always find out by removing the cell/battery of your phone. The model number along with the IMEI of the phone should be present. 4. How to bypass the XBox Security System: Hacks and weaknesses of the Microsoft Xbox console

In late 2001, Microsoft released the Xbox, their first gaming console, to compete  against Sony and Nintendo in the living room. As the real money is made with the games and not the consoles, Microsoft had to make sure (as much as they could) that nobody could play pirated games or use the machine for anything other than games. Although the original security design idea was a good one and has been copied a lot since then, Microsoft’s inexperienced team made a variety of design, implementation, and policy mistakes. This talk first (re)constructs the design of the Xbox security system from Microsoft’s point of view, and then deconstructs it from the hacker’s point of view. As a bonus, the talk will feature some insights in the security system of the Xbox successor, the Xbox 360.

Michael Steil is the founder and maintainer of the Xbox-Linux Project. He oversaw most of the Xbox hacks and also contributed to hacking, reverse engineering and porting Linux on the Xbox.  

This is really good. The types of errors or oversights that allowed the hackes to compromise the Secret ROM tend to happen a lot in any complex project, even when the people involved are highly competent and conscientious.

They made changes from using RC5 to RC4 for encryption, and how they thought RC4 worked didn’t actually work that way.

They switched from AMD to Intel chips at the last minute and Intel chips have that legacy hack that allows code to circle back in RAM (AMD chips don’t allow for this)

Savegames posed a good loophole as that code can’t be hashed or checked, so a buffer overflow was exploited and allowed unsigned code to be run. Microsoft patched this, but hackers then realized that what MS did to fix this exploit actually opened up this loophole wide, as the method used had to do with Xbox Live, (which has to work on every version of Xbox (1.0 through 1.6)) and since every game has to work on every Xbox ever made, they could not patch it.

How to get access to IM passwords, recover windows and office product key

How to change your windows password using the command line

You need to have admin access to perform this change from the command line. This is an especially handy trick if you want to change a password on an account but you’ve forgotten the original (going through the Control Panel can require confirmation of the old password).

In this example, I want to change the password for a user names Askstudent. To verify the user name, by simply typing net user, I get a list of all the user names on that windows machine. Now, go to the command prompt and enter:

cd\ cd windows\system32 net user   E.g. > net user asks mypa$$word If there are people near you and you don’t want them to see the password you type, enter: net user * E.g. > net user asks * > Type a password for the user: > Confirm the password:

How to hack a Windows 2000 Administrator password using the command prompt

Warning: This tip should only be used for legitimate purposes in case you lost or forgot your administrator password to your Windows 2000 machine.  

While this hack could be applied in Windows XP machine too, you need to be logged in with administrator rights to perform this task. So why would you care if you already have admin rights on that machine right? So, we are focussing this discussion on how to get access to the admin password on Windows 2000 which is still amongst the most widely deployed operating systems especially in a corporate environment.

Log in and go to your DOS command prompt. You can launch the DOS prompt by either pressing the “Windows Key”(the one usually beside the left Alt key) and R. So a combination of Windows Key + R should launch the command prompt. So, for your DOS hacking command, enter these commands exactly as they appear…

cd\ cd\windows\system32 mkdir myhack move logon.scr myhack\logon.scr copy cmd.exe logon.scr exit

So what you just told windows to backup is the command program and the screen saver file. Then you edited the settings so when windows loads the screen saver, you will get an unprotected dos prompt without logging in.

When this appears enter this command that’s in parenthesis (net user password). So if the admin user name is admin and you want the password ’lame’ then you would enter “net user admin lame″ and now you’ve changed the admin password to lame. Log in, do what you want to do, copy the contents of myhack back into system32 to cover your tracks by doing this at c:\windows\system32 > copy c:\windows\system32\myhack *.* c:\windows\system32

You will be prompted for overwrite .. say Yes.
