Something Tells Us Nobody Speaks English Here

This is soo funny. Something tells us that nobody speaks English here.  Looks like Asian folks just think written English looks cool, and since most of ‘em can’t read it any more than you can read Japanese — well, you end up with some pretty funny t-shirts. The best part, the oblivious teacher and more little kids in the background.

Wonder how he got it though. If you observe, it is not an over sized shirt and is clearly made for a kid.

or… this kid is a crazy pimp

or.. a fan of Dead Kennedys. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Too_Drunk_to_Fuck

That would be so wrong under other circumstances. It’s just funny as it currently sits.

I’ve seen many people wearing shirts with Japanese or Chinese words on them; the above picture kinda makes you wonder what sorts of things they really say.

  6. bill on April 6th, 2008 10:53 pm

its not that they think its cool, more like “hip” or whatever, just.. yeah i guess cool, maybe not cool cool, but trendy or what not

The interesting thing is that because so many fashions & trends of the Western world are downright ridiculous, you would think we wouldn’t have to laugh at foreigners; their culture is expected to be different and unexpected.

Rick Beckman, I think you’re seeing bigotry where it isn’t, and have missed the point of what makes this funny. Let me explain the joke to you:

The image features a small child wearing a shirt that states he is far too intoxicated to have sexual intercourse. This is humorous, because said child is clearly far too young to partake in either act. The humor is increased by the fact that clearly the teacher in the class scene doesn’t know what the shirt says, else the child wouldn’t be allowed to sport the vulgarity so proudly at school. This is FUNNY.

It is NOT a case of us ‘making fun’ of these people! This is a funny cultural misunderstanding. We aren’t laughing at him because we think he’s stupid. We’re laughing because the miscommunication caused by language barriers in this situation have resulted in FUNNY SHIT. You’re the one who brought up the negative connotations. There was no racism at this table until you set yours down on it.

The Fuz: I understand what makes it funny; all I said was there’s plenty of things here which we can still laugh at. :-P

It’s the same principle of vacationing — why spend so much money to see foreign nations when most people have seen so little of their home nation?

Yes, it’s funny, but thank you for thinking I didn’t think it was.
No, I didn’t say anyone here is racist, but thank you for thinking that is what I said.

And yes, we are “making fun” of them — you do find it FUNny, don’t you? There’s a difference between “making fun” and “insulting.” ;-)

  10. The Fuz on April 12th, 2008 1:17 am

No there isn’t. “Making fun” has an implied “at someone else’s expense” at the end. The difference between “laughing with” and “laughing at.”

Whatever. Clearly this is a miscommunication caused by YOUR language barriers. You didn’t realize what you were communicating in your comment. Happens all the time, no worries!

I thought making fun of Asians (both here and abroad) was socially acceptable.

Rick Beckham you make no sense and this is funny. Your a dumbass.

  14. Rick Beckman on May 2nd, 2008 5:14 pm

    1) There is no “Rick Beckham” mentioned in this thread.
    2) When addressing a person, it is convention to separate that person’s name using commas.
    3) “Your” is a possessive word; perhaps you meant “You’re”?
    4) When conjoining two sentences with a conjunction such as “and,” a comma is required before the conjunction.

Despite all that, though, I admire your confidence in casting stones. I never said this wasn’t funny; actually, just a few comments prior to yours I stated quite clearly that I understood why it’s funny.

    Have a great day.

this photo is hilarious, yet, somewhat unbelievable. the ever-cynical me suspects something fishy going on. i want to believe in it, though. i really do. rick’s original comment wasn’t that bad, but after the other two, he starts to come off like even more of a toolbag. i love that stumbleupon takes me to comedic pictures AND a blog cat fight at the same time. oh, and a down a deep dark road of insomnia. damn you, stumbleupon!

This reminds me of a t-shirt I saw a very young girl wearing in Japan. It was an obvious knock-off of a Nike shirt, but instead of having the ubiquitous Nike slogan “Just Do It!”, it said “Just Do Me!”

  19. Geeeez on May 21st, 2008 2:57 pm

Why is everyone jumping on Rick? He never said it was racist, and never said it wasn’t funny. Are you guys that anxious to start an argument that you’ll make things up? All he said was that the Western culture is also ridiculous. I mean, haven’t you guys seen a mullet before? It’s hilarious!

At least his shirt is grammatically correct. I’ve seen silly things on imported items like a snoopy toy said “Spoony” on it.

Got something to say?
