How to hack a Windows 2000 Administrator password using the command prompt
Warning: This tip should only be used for legitimate purposes in case you lost or forgot your administrator password to your Windows 2000 machine.
While this hack could be applied in Windows XP machine too, you need to be logged in with administrator rights to perform this task. So why would you care if you already have admin rights on that machine right? So, we are focussing this discussion on how to get access to the admin password on Windows 2000 which is still amongst the most widely deployed operating systems especially in a corporate environment.
Log in and go to your DOS command prompt. You can launch the DOS prompt by either pressing the “Windows Key”(the one usually beside the left Alt key) and R. So a combination of Windows Key + R should launch the command prompt. So, for your DOS hacking command, enter these commands exactly as they appear…
| cd\ cd\windows\system32 mkdir myhack move logon.scr myhack\logon.scr copy cmd.exe logon.scr exit

So what you just told windows to backup is the command program and the screen saver file. Then you edited the settings so when windows loads the screen saver, you will get an unprotected dos prompt without logging in.
When this appears enter this command that’s in parenthesis (net user password). So if the admin user name is admin and you want the password ’lame’ then you would enter “net user admin lame″ and now you’ve changed the admin password to lame. Log in, do what you want to do, copy the contents of myhack back into system32 to cover your tracks by doing this at c:\windows\system32 > copy c:\windows\system32\myhack *.* c:\windows\system32
You will be prompted for overwrite .. say Yes.

Guys!!!!, before trying the above steps ensure that you have access to the root directory. There is no point you try changing SCR file path or through safe mode if you do not have specific access, Its like deleting SAM folder without rights..

There are many it is possbile that your admin must have missed few…
Much more simplified method of changing passwords to any account.
In command prompt, type:
net user *
You are then prompted for a new password. Type the password in (the cursor doesn’t move), and press enter. Re-enter the password to verify, and you’re set.
^ But, then it doesn’t change any passwords, cuz you didn’t specify any

right, i completely agree with my fellow true hacker Dan,
all you guys don’t seem to understand that in early 2007, microsoft made a block on these sorts of codes to stop people like you doing it so easily. the code will work on an earlier version operating system, somewhere before winXP. i’ve just turned 16 and think that anyone who doesn’t have the common sense to understand that password hacking is a difficult task needs to either learn more about batch processing and command line interfacing, or just give up and stop wasting your time on a near impossible task to an unexperienced CLI user. the point of a password is to protect personal files from being read by an unauthorised person, apart from the fact its illegal, most people who have only a user password instead of a system boot password usually have nothing worth looking at. and of course there is the fact that any computer that you can use without too much aggravation is not a worth while system too hack into.
all those who wish to be hackers, do your homework on easier projects before taking one of most difficult tasks as a hacker.
and just to let you know,
there are ways to get around the security blocks, but i’m not going to tell you how. if your stupid enough to not have any experience and go into and change files in the BIOS directories, then you will probably corrupt your own OS.
believe me, it is not worth risking loosing yours or whoevers computers it is files.

The procedure provided to hack the password doesn’t work because when we get the cmd window in the logon screen it takes about 10 in to load and after that the command doesn’t work that was given…..

my windows 2000 lost password…it cant log on to windows.
it always asking for the admin password…i run the SAFE MODE WITH COMMAND PROMPT but it doesnt load the command prompt,it still loading the LOG-IN WINDOW.
there is a much easier way than this…
these hacks are a waste of time.
Seriously, they require you to already have admin access to do them, since they write to the system directory. They require that you are already logged onto the system in the first place.
The logon.scr is nice, but if people are not smart enough to save copies of the original files to undo the rather glaring evidence of tampering then even that is too much for tiny minds.
If you already have administrative level access, then all you’ve done with the net user is to change an existing password, meaning that the next time the actual admin comes on they’ll know who did it.
is there a way to see a admin pass without actually changing it? i know how to change it but if i did it would be obvious someone knows it…

A friend of mine bought a Windows 2000 computer that was used in a job help center. They only gave him the labuser/labuser username/password login. There are two other logins that _may_ have admin privileges. The command prompt “net user” does show a list of user names even using a guest account using WIndows XP.
By using the “net user [name]” (without the []) you can check if a given name is part of an Administration Group.
Note 1: The “bluebox” script contains all of the commands, but the
screenshot below is missing the first DOS command “cd\”. That
may have something to do with alot of the comments above.
Note 2: After entering the correct sequence of DOS commands
I setup the screen saver. (Right click on desktop and click Properties) I noticed a new entry “logon” in the drop down list of screensavers. I selected that one and set it to trigger after 1 minute.
I waited for a minute and sure enough, the DOS window appeared on a “blank desktop” ie: whatever you have as your background screen on your desktop. From there it was easy to follow the steps outlined above.
Sometimes it helps to read between the lines, It also helps if you grew up with DOS 5 & 6, before Windoze reared its ugly head.
Here’s looking forward to seeing if I can get my friend’s system up enough to bump his account into the Administrator Group. He has no clue about computers and I am trying to get him online, but he cannot install anything, even a lowly printer driver. He keeps on running into the “You dont have the power to do that on this system error”.
I believe he has ~130Mb on his system with a 10gig HD. No clue
as to its CPU speed. So I figure his OS is as old as the hills.

for this to work you need a boot disk (CD/Floppy/Flippy) that has NTS Hard drive knowledge. That is going to be the only way to bypass the native operating systems inner workings.
