How to play and Win at Rock, Paper, Scissors

Rock, Paper, Scissors is a two person hand game. This game is most commonly used as a selection method instead of flipping a coin, throwing dice or flipping a straw. However unlike throwing a coin or dice or flipping a straw, this method doesn’t depend entirely on luck. Rock, Paper, sissors can be played and won with skill.

How to Play Rock Paper Scissors

The two players count out loud to three or call out Rock! Paper! Scissors! each time raising one hand in a fist and swinging it down on the count and at Scissors! the players reveal their call using one of the three gestures. Remember the fist comes down each time one of the words is said out and the gesture is made on the third count after the players say Scissors. Sometimes players employ the word shoot! which is the fourth word said and reveal their gesture then.

Rock: The gesture rock is represented by a closed fist

Paper: The gesture Paper is represented by an open hand as shown below

Scissors: The gesture Scissors is represented by the index and middle fingers extended as shown below

Rock Paper Scissors Rules

The objective of Rock Paper Scissors is that the player shows a gesture which defeats that of the opponent. Each of the three gestures beats one of the other two. The gestures are resolved using the Rock Paper Scissors Rules shown here

• Rock smashes Scissors. Rock wins
• Paper wraps Rock. Paper wins
• Scissors cuts Paper. Scissors wins

If both the players choose the same gesture, then the game is called a tie and played again. The game is played in a best two out of three match

How to Win at Rock Paper Scissors

Players employ various Rock Paper Scissors strategies to win at the game.

1. The World Rock Paper Scissors society claims that rookie men start off with a rock gesture. So if you are playing a rookie go with a paper at the start and you can win
2. The WRPS society says that female rookies start of with scissors. So, go with Rock
3. If you are playing an experienced male player, go with Scissors. It will either beat their Paper or tie their Scissors. Similarly against an experienced female, go with Paper as they might not use the predictable scissors.
4. If someone makes the same gesture twice, they will not do it again because they don’t want to look predictable. So it someone throws rock twice they will either use paper or scissors. Throw scissors so you will either win or draw
