I am pretty sure everyone of you might have experienced such a situation where you wanted to access say your Office License Key which you punched in a year ago and do not have your CD anymore and once you rebuild your machine, Microsoft Office with its license key is lost.
In this tutorial, we will show you a neat tool called SIW or System Information for Windows. SIW is a System Information tool that gathers detailed information about your system properties and settings. A utility that includes detailed specs for Motherboard, BIOS, CPU, Devices, Memory, Video, Drives, Ports, Printers.
SIW displays information about Operating System, Installed Programs, Processes, Services, System uptime, Product Key (CD key), Users, Serial Numbers, Open Files, Network, Users, Network Shares and more, as well as real-time monitors for CPU, Memory, Page File usage and network traffic.
SIW also displays currently active network connections, Passwords hidden behind asterisks, installed codecs, and more. A standalone tool that does not require installation.
Step # 1: First, go to Google or your favorite search engine and type in “download SIW“.
Step # 2: Download and install it onto your computer. SIW is completely freeware.
Step # 3: You want to access the license keys of all the applications stored on your computer, in the SIW left pane, scroll down till you find licenses and click. Here, I will show you an example of accessing your windows and MS Office product keys.
Accessing your Windows Product Key: You can either do it by clicking on licenses or in Software — Operating System
Accessing your Microsoft Office Product Key: You can access your MS Office Product key by going into Software –> Applications –> MS Office
Accessing other passwords on your computer: You can also access other passwords stored on your computer like your MSN messenger password, Yahoo IM password or your AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) password stored on your computer.
For this follow the path of Software –> Applications –> Secrets. This will display all your hidden passwords stored on your computer including your IM clients and other application passwords. Very powerful tool indeed.
Also, if you want to find the list of open ports on your computer, or Network path or other local area network information, you can use SIW for it. For accessing the open ports on your computer, scroll down, go to Network, Open ports for the complete list. The picture below shows a list of open ports on my computer
